This Cookie Policy explains the cookies used on friendsofstmagnus.com, the website of The Society of The Friends of St Magnus Cathedral (SCIO), Scottish Charity SC053983. It should be read alongside our Privacy Notice.
What cookies are
Cookies are small files that a website stores in your browser. Some are needed for the site to work. Others help us understand how the site is used, and are only set if you agree.
Your choices
When you first visit the site, a banner asks whether you accept cookies. You can accept, deny, or choose by category. Only the cookies needed for the site to work are set before you choose. You can change your choice at any time below, or with the “Manage consent" tab on the website.
Cookies needed for the site to work
These are set without asking, because the site cannot work properly without them. They do not track you.
| Cookie | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
| cmplz_banner-status, cmplz_policy_id, cmplz_functional, cmplz_preferences, cmplz_statistics, cmplz_marketing, cmplz_consented_services | Remember your cookie choices, so the banner does not appear on every page | 1 year |
| wp_consent_ cookies | Pass your cookie choices to Google Analytics | Up to 1 year |
| wp-postpass_ | Remembers that a Council member has entered the password for the Council area | 10 days |
| wordpress_ and wordpress_logged_in_ | Keep people who manage the website logged in | Until the browser is closed, or 14 days if “Remember me" is ticked |
Statistics cookies (only if you accept)
We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit the site, which pages they look at and how they found us. This helps us improve the site. Google Analytics only sets these cookies if you accept statistics cookies. If you do not, Google may receive a basic signal that a page was viewed, without cookies and without information that identifies you.
| Cookie | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
| _ga | Distinguishes one visitor from another, so visits can be counted | About 13 months |
| _ga_G3JNM5NE8G | Keeps track of the current visit | About 13 months |
Google Analytics shortens your IP address, and we have switched off the sharing of our Analytics data with Google for its own purposes. You can read Google’s privacy policy.
Embedded videos (only if you accept)
Some pages include videos from YouTube. Until you accept cookies, you will see a placeholder instead of the video. Once the video loads, YouTube may set its own cookies, such as YSC, VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE and PREF, to play the video and remember your settings. These are controlled by Google, not by us. See Google’s privacy policy for details.
Links to other websites
Some links take you to other websites, such as PayPal for donations or Google Maps for directions. Those sites set their own cookies once you are there, under their own policies.
Managing cookies in your browser
You can also delete cookies or block them through your browser settings. If you block all cookies, parts of the site may not work as intended.
