Terms of Use

DRAFT: not yet approved by the Council. Not for publication.

This website is published by The Society of The Friends of St Magnus Cathedral (SCIO), a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation, Scottish Charity Number SC053983, registered office 2 Ingavoe Drive, Kirkwall, Orkney, KW15 1WT.

By using this website you accept these terms.

Using this website

You may read, print and download material from this site for your own use, and share links to it. Please do not use the site in any way that damages it, interferes with anyone else’s use of it, or breaks the law.

Membership

Membership of the Society is open to anyone. Annual membership is a minimum of £10 and Life membership a minimum of £60. Submitting the membership form is an application to join; your membership begins once we have received your subscription.

Annual subscriptions are payable each year. If you pay by standing order, that instruction is between you and your bank, and you may cancel it at any time by telling your bank. Please also let us know, so that we can keep our records straight.

You may resign your membership at any time by contacting the Honorary Secretary.

Donations

Donations are voluntary gifts to the Society and are used to support the care and conservation of St Magnus Cathedral.

Donations are not normally refundable. If you have made a donation in error, please contact us as soon as possible and we will do what we reasonably can to help.

Where you make a Gift Aid declaration, you confirm that you are a UK taxpayer and that you understand that if you pay less Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax in the tax year than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all your donations, it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

Payments

Payments may be made by PayPal, bank transfer, standing order, cheque or cash. Payments made through PayPal are subject to PayPal’s own terms. We do not process or store card details.

The Council area

Parts of this site are restricted to members of the Council of the Society. If you have been given access, please keep your password confidential and do not share the material you find there outside the Council without permission.

We take care to make sure the information on this site is correct, and we have checked the historical material against sources wherever possible. Even so, we cannot guarantee that everything is free of error, and the site is provided as it is. If you spot a mistake, we would be glad to hear from you.

Where we link to other websites, we do so because we think they will be useful. We are not responsible for their content or for how they handle your information.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Otherwise, and to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of this website.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of Scotland, and the Scottish courts have jurisdiction.
